Shooting Film For The First Time

Soooooo, I am so so so excited about this!

Not only am I so proud of the video content, but I truly cannot believe how these images turned out. It has been literally 7 years since I even touched a film camera, and that was back way before I thought I would ever make photography my career. In my high school art portfolio class, my teacher loaned me a very 90’s 35mm film camera from the school for me to use for class. I only used it for a few projects, but it left such an impact on me. I have been fascinated with film ever since. There is something about the satisfying “click!” when pressing the shutter, and the excitement of not knowing what the heck you just did! I found that it made me so much more intentional. It slowed me down, forced me to think, and allowed me to create a pretty diverse gallery with only 35 images.

It was really important to me that I documented this process because honestly, if I can do it, anybody can. You’ll see in the beginning of the video that I literally had to google how to take a picture. We didn’t get started for like 15 minutes because I was just flipping the camera over and over looking for an “On” button. (Newsflash- there isn’t one.) HAHA

About the images: I edited these in Lightroom after downloading them to my computer! I have a few presets that I always use for my images, but since these were JPEG and now RAW files, it was a little bit difficult to use them. I had to do a lot of tweaking on each one, but I am super happy with how they turned out. Even the ones that are a little out of focus (I was shooting wide open) I love with the filmy mood. It’s all so dramatic.
